Uncle Jimmy and Aunt Billie – Both Gone, Never Forgotten
My Uncle Jimmy was a soft spoken man. I once heard him call a woman who cut him off in traffic in Los Angeles a heifer and it shocked me. That was the closest I’d ever heard him come to cursing. This is the same man who was a crew member on a B-17 bomber in 50 missions during World War II.
Uncle Jimmy passed away in 2012 and was one of the best men who ever lived. When my great-grandmother died and the family chose the date for the funeral, he’s the only one who spoke up to say we weren’t going to bury her on my birthday. I’ll never forget that small act of kindness.
I want to thank the few remaining Veterans around the world from the Greatest Generation who sacrificed so much so I could grow up to be an outspoken smartass.
I also want to thank all the other Vets, including Uncle Jimmy’s sons, Don Nibblett and William (Doak) Nibblett, for their service and their many sacrifices.
